ScoreBuzz — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
ScoreBuzz is an offline-first scoring app. Your matches, players, teams and tournaments stay on your phone, and nothing you score is uploaded to us. The one thing kept online is your username, so that no two people pick the same one. Usage statistics, crash reports and tips notifications are optional and off until you turn them on.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in the app: matches and every ball, point or goal in them; players and teams; tournaments, fixtures and sponsors; your profile; your settings and presets.
This data is stored in an encrypted database on your device. The key that opens it is held in your phone's own secure keystore and never leaves the phone. We cannot read your data, and neither can anyone who copies the database file off your device without that key.
Automatic cloud backup is switched off for ScoreBuzz, deliberately: a restored copy of the database without its key could never be opened again. Use Settings → Backup to make your own backup file, which you control.
What leaves your device, and only when you choose
A file you share. Exporting a match, a profile or a backup creates a file and hands it to whichever app you pick — a messaging app, email, your own storage. Where it goes from there is that app's business, not ours. You can protect an export with a password; without one, the file is readable by anyone who receives it.
A player profile someone shares with you. Importing a file adds that person's details to your roster on your phone.
Your username
When you create your profile, the username you choose is checked against everyone else's and reserved for you, so that no two people have the same one. To do that, ScoreBuzz stores three things in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore): the username, the app-instance identifier Firebase gives your installation, and the date it was reserved. Nothing else — not your name, location, bio, matches or players.
If you are offline when you sign up, the check happens the next time the app is opened with a connection. A username is visible to anyone who looks that exact name up, the way any username is; the list cannot be browsed.
Usage statistics and crash reports — off unless you turn them on
ScoreBuzz uses Google Firebase for usage statistics, crash reports and performance. They are off by default. Nothing is collected or sent unless you switch them on — when the app first asks, or in Settings → Privacy. The app never stores events while they are off, waiting to send them later.
If you turn them on, Firebase receives: which screens and features are used; for each match, the sport, format, whether it was a tournament fixture, how it ended, how long it lasted and how many scoring events it had; your app language and most-played sport; crash traces; and standard device information (app version, device model, Android version, and an app-instance identifier Firebase creates). This is processed under Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
It never includes player or team names, scores, match details, or anything you type, and ScoreBuzz uses no advertising ID. You can turn it back off at any time.
App settings from Firebase
So that an update can be required, a maintenance notice shown, or a sport switched off without a new release, the app reads a small set of settings from Firebase Remote Config. This happens for everyone, because a required update has to reach everyone. It sends no usage data and nothing you scored — only the app-instance identifier Firebase uses to deliver the settings.
Tips and news notifications — off unless you turn them on
If you turn on Tips and news, your phone registers with Firebase Cloud Messaging so we can send occasional notifications about new features, tips and offers, in your app language. Turning it off unregisters the phone and deletes its messaging token. Match reminders and the live-score notification are separate and never used for promotion.
Permissions the app asks for
Notifications — match reminders, and the live-score notification you can score from. Asked only when you switch one of those on.
Vibration — feedback when you tap a scoring button.
Alarms and reminders (background) — to show a reminder before a match you scheduled, and to restore your reminders after a restart.
Camera — only when you scan a player's QR code to link them. The image is read on your phone and nothing is kept or sent.
ScoreBuzz asks for no location, no contacts, no microphone and no storage permission.
Children
ScoreBuzz is a scoring tool with no social features and no advertising. Apart from the username described above, it does not knowingly collect anything from anyone, of any age.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete all data erases everything ScoreBuzz holds on your device. Uninstalling the app does the same. Your reserved username stays reserved, so a reinstall cannot lose it to someone else; to have it removed, email us from the address below with the username and we will delete it. Files you already shared with other people are yours and theirs to manage.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date, and a material change will be announced in the app.
